It has been several more days
adventuring down the river and it feels like the blood suckers are finally
beginning to lose heart. Their attacks come less frequent and in smaller
numbers. But this respite is shortly lived, for new foes have taken their place.
From the murky waters of Stony Portage came the stealthy assassins known as
“Leaches”. They are able to penetrate all of our defenses and strike before we
are even aware of their presence. Luckily, their bite is rather weak. On top of
those sly killers we are constantly berated by the angry chirps of a tribe of
tree creatures. Jeff the Grey said not to worry, for they are called squirrels.
These creatures are easily frightened off, but we should be on our way for they
would return in greater numbers. Finally, it seems that Mother Nature herself
is against us. She has sent heavy winds and rain to impede our path. With all
this, it is no wonder my companions grow tired and restless. Something must be
done, their spirits must be renewed. I wait till morning and then I addressed
them.
“Ecoeeians,
hear me. I know your muscles are sore and your spirits are weary, for this
seems like an endless war. But do not falter and be steadfast, for victory is
nigh. We must hold for these last two weeks, against whatever forces come
against us. And know, we will not be conquered, for you all have prepared for
what is still to come and have trained diligently. And remember, THIS IS ECOEE!
